the challenge —
The Shikar Safari Club annual meeting was held at Four Seasons Lanai, Hawaii, in 2020 amid the pandemic. Tandem was charged with creating event collateral and iconography that was inspired by local values and principles, and on ancestral relationships between people and places.
This event comprised 5 days of activities relating to A hunting safaris involve hunting a variety of species, including the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, rhinoceros, and Cape buffalo), as well as other plains game. The experience can range from luxurious to more rustic, depending on the outfitter and location.
Our team was tasked with designing, fabricating, and delivering custom event collateral that would educate and entertain its members in a way that captured the unique spirit of the Shikar since its beginning. By refreshing Shikar’s visual identity, Tandem created a solution that ensured Shikar would continue to carry on with its legacy as a leader in defending the freedom to hunt and promoting sustainable-use wildlife conservation worldwide.
We set out to create a visual hierarchy and deliver clarity. We started with the existing Shikar logo, a beautiful piece of artistry that needed just a bit of simplification to enable better reproduction and easier legibility. Next, we created an iconography framework for packaging and event collateral that connected Shikar to its 20-year history. Additionally, vintage illustrations, patterns, and an extended color palette were created to give Shikar 2020 annual a meeting a voice consistent visual language all its own.
With the visual identity framework in place, we created a system of icons to communicate the uniqueness of the day’s events. Together, the visual identity and the product badging system were a true reflection of each of the day’s events.
